Pinsent Masons has announced the appointment of Claire Scott as legal director in the international law firm’s Aberdeen office.

Ms Scott is widely respected in the north east and has years of experience advising international clients in the oil and gas, shipping and aviation industries.

A member of the firm’s employment energy sector group, Ms Scott will work closely with Aberdeen partner Euan Smith who has been at the forefront of advising clients on Brexit-related employment issues.

Formerly with Burness Paull, Ms Scott joins Pinsent Masons as the firm reports increased client demand for advice on complex projects involving restructuring, outsourcing, data protection, offshore contracting and TUPE matters.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Scott said: “Pinsent Masons has such a strong global reputation in the oil and gas sector that the opportunity to join the employment team was too good to pass up. The firm is also very influential in the discrimination and diversity sphere, as its number one position in Stonewall’s LGBT rankings demonstrate, and these are topics that I am passionate about.”

Ms Scott has expertise in resolving sensitive and high profile disputes for blue chip companies, is skilled in the conduct of employment tribunal litigation and has acted for clients in employment tribunals across the UK.

Mr Smith said: “I am delighted to have Claire on board and her track record in advising on sensitive and complicated areas of employment law will be welcomed by our expanding client base in Scotland and across the UK.

“Employment law is constantly evolving, as demonstrated by the upcoming changes to IR35 regulations which will significantly impact on contractors and employers in the offshore sector. Claire’s skill-set adds strength to our global employment team and will be an asset in addressing client’s requirements over multiple international jurisdictions.”

Bob Ruddiman, head of oil and gas at Pinsent Masons, added: “Employment law feeds in to almost every aspect of the oil and gas sector which, as one of the most highly regulated industries in the world, faces many challenges. Our clients will value that we have added another first rate legal practitioner in Claire to our already strong international offering.”
