Lawscot Foundation launches festive fundraising campaign

The Lawscot Foundation today launches its festive fundraising campaign, inviting everyone to play its game of Pass the Parcel – with a twist!

In this virtual, social media version of Pass the Parcel, participants will make a donation to the Lawscot Foundation, the social mobility charity of the Law Society of Scotland, then nominate or “pass the parcel” to someone else to do the same.

In passing the parcel, participants may even win a prize, just like the childhood game! At 3pm every Friday in the run up to Christmas and on Wednesday, 23 December, the “music” will stop and someone who has passed the parcel that week will be announced as the winner of a festive prize.

The campaign will raise vital funds for the Lawscot Foundation and its work to support academically talented students from less-advantaged backgrounds in Scotland through their legal education. The charity aims to raise £2,500 from the Pass the Parcel campaign, enough to fund one of its students through a year of their law degree.

Heather McKendrick, head of careers & outreach at the Law Society of Scotland, said: “Our version of Pass the Parcel is meant to be a little bit of fun for everyone involved, but the donations will make a huge difference to our work, in what has been an extremely challenging year for everyone.

“As with all charities, our fundraising has been significantly impacted this year. Yet, it is young people from less-advantaged backgrounds who have been hit hardest by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, so our support is needed more than ever. Every penny donated in our Pass the Parcel campaign will help us continue to support more of these incredibly deserving students and spread the gift of education to all.”
