FAI to be held into 2016 deaths of three fishermen

A fatal accident inquiry (FAI) is to be held into the deaths of three fishermen who died in 2016 after their boat sank in the Outer Hebrides.
Martin Johnstone, 29, Chris Morrison, 27, and skipper Paul Alliston, 42, were asleep when creel vessel Louisa began taking on water while at anchor.
They abandoned the vessel but their life raft failed to inflate properly and while the emergency services were alerted by a beacon from the Louisa, the men had died by the time they arrived.
A fourth crewman, however, survived. Lachlann Armstrong had clung to rocks until he was rescued.
An FAI will be held at Inverness Sheriff Court, with a preliminary hearing due to be held next month. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) found that a series of mistakes led to the boat sinking.
