Faculty delighted to play host to SCCR reception

The Faculty of Advocates was pleased to cement a “strong bond” with the Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) and host its Annual Reception.

In welcoming guests to the Reading Room, Angela Grahame QC, Vice-Dean of Faculty (pictured), recalled that a link with the SCCR dated from late 2015.

“The relationship between the Faculty and the SCCR has developed in a relatively short time, but it has developed into a strong bond. Your presence here is a very tangible sign of the unique status of the SCCR within the heart of the Faculty.”

The SCCR recognises that conflict in relationships can have a significant impact on the lives of those involved, and it promotes best practice in mediation, conflict resolution and early intervention. Its work has a particular focus on young people and families - family relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of youth homelessness.

The Faculty became a supporter of the SCCR when James Wolffe QC, was Dean of Faculty.

Ms Grahame said that after Mr Wolffe left to become Lord Advocate, there was a change in the Faculty’s office-bearers and Gordon Jackson QC was elected Dean and she became Vice-Dean.

“With change, relationships can dwindle, but Diane Marr (SCCR’s network development manager) requested a meeting and she took time to carefully explain the work that you do and the importance of links with the Faculty. She totally persuaded us that the Faculty must continue to support the SCCR.”
