Everest in Dunoon: Law lecturer Martin Jones scales Bishop's Seat in memory of his son, Olly

Glasgow Caledonian University law lecturer Martin Jones is currently scaling Bishop’s Seat to raise money for Olly’s Wee Bothy, a charity established in memory of his son Olly, who passed away two years ago.

From base camp at Pucks Rest in the West Bay, Dunoon, Martin is going up and down Bishop’s Seat a grand total of 18 times over a six-day period (finishing on 19 August), which will take him a wee bit higher than Everest.

Martin said: “The Bishop’s Seat overlooks Dunoon. It’s 504m high and supposedly takes its name from a member of the clergy who was minded to climb it every day.

“In an echo of this, I’ll be aiming to have an adventurous challenge in my own backyard over a short period of days to raise money for OWB.”

He added: “Olly was a big fan of the outdoors and loved to climb a mountain.

“Not all mountains are made of stone – your support helps the charity reach its own summit.”

Olly’s Wee Bothy (SCIO) is a charity based on the Cowal Peninsula, Argyll. It is fundraising in order to provide holiday accommodation for families who have suffered the death of a child.

The charity was set up in memory of Olly who was tragically killed in a road accident in Innellan shortly after leaving his school bus in August 2016.

The charity’s long-term goal is to build a place of refuge, respite and renewal in the Argyll countryside…a bothy.
