Two police officers have been suspended after tossing a coin to decide whether or not to arrest a suspected speeding motorist.

The officers, based in Roswell, Georgia, USA, were placed on administrative leave after bodycam footage of the incident was obtained by investigative reporters and broadcast on 11Alive.

Officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson are heard on video discussing what to do with 24-year-old Sarah Webb before one of them opens a coin toss app on her phone and lets it make the decision.

A crying Ms Webb, who did not know about the coin toss until the video surfaced, is then seen being bundled into the back of the police car.

In a statement, Roswell police chief Rusty Grant said: “I have much higher expectations of our police officers and I am appalled that any law enforcement officer would trivialise the decision making process of something as important as the arrest of a person.”
