And finally… crime wave

Police officers have been offered “surf therapy” to help them deal with mental health problems.

The roll-out of the scheme is reportedly inspired by its use in the military – conjuring up images of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic, Apocalypse Now.

Beginning in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, the scheme may be extended to the whole of England and Wales in the near future.

Dorset’s Chief Constable James Vaughan said surfing was now a “key part” of its local wellness programme.

Devon and Cornwall Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer added: “It is important that public monies are spent wisely and this continues to be evaluated. Early indications are that there will be a significant return on investment through reductions in days lost as a result of sickness.”
