Perth solicitor Amanda Millar has been confirmed as the Law Society of Scotland’s next vice president.

Ms Millar will assume her new role in May 2019 succeeding current vice president, John Mulholland, when he takes up the reins from current President of the Law Society of Scotland, Alison Atack.

Paul Matthews, who was also nominated for the vice president’s post, will continue to contribute to the society’s work in his role as Council member and convener of the Nominations Committee.

Ms Millar is a partner at McCash & Hunter Solicitors in Perth and specialises in all aspects of mental health and adults with incapacity law.

She is the convener of the Law Society’s Professional Practice (Rules and Waivers) Sub-Committee and an observer to the Mental Health and Disability Sub-Committee. She is an accredited specialist in both mental health law and in incapacity and mental disability law, and also sits on the society’s board and the newly formed LawscotTech Board

Alison Atack, president of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “I am delighted to confirm Amanda as vice president-elect.

“Amanda has represented her constituents in Perth for eight years, and through her work in private practice and her membership of numerous Society committees over the years, she fully understands the high professional standards expected of solicitors.

Ms Millar added: “I am delighted to be taking up the post as the Society’s next vice president and look forward to working alongside John during his presidency next year.”
