Thorntons has appointed Chris Phillips as a partner and a member of the employment law team in Edinburgh.

Mr Phillips first became partner at Mackay Simon in 2000 and has more than 23 years’ experience in the law.

He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and Scottish Discrimination Lawyers Association and has been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as an employment law specialist since 2005.

His areas of expertise include employment and discrimination law, professional regulatory law and administrative law linked to public inquiries.

In addition to his role with Thorntons, he is chairman of Fife College Foundation and an external examiner in employment law for the University of Dundee.

He said: “It’s an exciting period of growth for Thorntons in Edinburgh so I’m delighted to be joining the firm at this time and developing the employment law offering there.”

The firm will also move later this year from its current Melville Street base to larger offices in Citypoint, Haymarket.

Colin Graham, chairman of Thorntons, said: “This move is significant for us and is a consequence of our growth over the last five years.

“Our new suite of offices at Citypoint will offer a more spacious environment for our people and clients and will allow for the continued growth of Thorntons as a legal firm and employer in Edinburgh.

“We’re delighted to welcome Chris as partner and a key member of our employment team in Edinburgh. His experience and expertise will be a real asset to Thorntons and our clients.”
