Installation as sheriff a 'tremendous privilege' for former prosecutor

A former prosecutor has described his installation as sheriff in Greenock as a “tremendous privilege”, the Greenock Telegraph reports.

Andrew McIntyre took up the role after a 16-year career at the Crown Office, which saw him specialise in trafficking cases.

Sheriff McIntyre, a graduate of Glasgow University, was most recently senior procurator fiscal with overall legal and management responsibility for sheriff and jury prosecutions in Tayside, Grampian and the Highlands and Islands.

As head of victim policy between 2007 and 2010, he advised prosecutors on issues including sexual crime, human trafficking and domestic abuse.

He was also seconded to the Commission for Racial Equality and to Lord Carloway during his review of criminal procedure.

The sheriff said: “It is a tremendous privilege to have been appointed to the bench here at Greenock.

“I am very much looking forward to serving the communities across the jurisdiction of the court.”
