Financial disputes expert to head new Burness Paull team

An expert in complex financial disputes has been promoted to head up a newly-combined practice area for Burness Paull.

Stuart Murdoch, formerly legal counsel, litigation at Royal Bank of Scotland, who joined Burness Paull four years ago, steps up to partner, and will lead a team dealing with banking and financial services disputes, as well as regulatory advice.

Philip Rodney, chairman at Burness Paull, said: “This is an area where increasingly our clients in Scotland, across the UK and internationally require advice. It is an essential component of deals in the financial sector. In addition, Stuart has a depth of experience acting in multi-million pound complex banking and financial disputes.

“With his in-house experience, Stuart brings a unique approach that allows him to provide practical advice and understand the client’s perspective. Throughout his career, he has shown leadership qualities that make him an ideal choice to lead this new practice area, which will be part of the firm’s Dispute Resolution division.”

Mr Murdoch, who is also a solicitor advocate and qualified mediator, joined the firm in 2014 after almost four years at RBS, where he worked on some of the biggest and most complicated banking disputes in the UK at the time.
