England: Racist woman who assaulted police spared jail after judge refuses to send ‘a lady’ to prison

A woman has been spared jail for a racist attack on a bouncer because a judge said she was “a lady”, The Times reports.

Polish-born student Karolina Szumko, 18, was fighting with a friend outside Notting Hill Arts Club when she shouted at a bouncer: “You f***ing black, you shouldn’t be standing between us” on December 15.

When police arrived she slapped one officer and kicked another. In custody she spat on one and threw water over another.

Ms Szmuko, who a month earlier had attended an anti-immigrant march with Neo-Nazis in Warsaw, is a first year student at Kingston University. She was told by a judge at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on Monday that vodka was to blame and that she was “a lady”.

Deputy district judge Adrian Turner said: “I dare say you were not aware of what was going on and I accept what happened wouldn’t have happened apart from drinking. You are genuinely sorry.

“I’m not going to send a lady to prison for something like this.”

On social media, Ms Szmuko posted images from the march which included Neo-Nazis from the National-Radical Camp (ONR). Banners at the event read “Mohammad not welcome”, “God, Honour, Fatherland” and “Death to the enemies of the fatherland”.

Beside the images she wrote: “Such a beautiful day”.

As police tried to apprehend her she was heard to shout: “You don’t believe in any f***ing nation, you are going to f***ing die. F***ing racists, pretend to be white but wish Merry Christmas to Muslim people.”

Ms Szumko was sentenced to 150 hours’ unpaid work and was told to pay £200 to each victim.
