DLA Piper marks International Women’s Day with diversity event

DLA Piper Scotland is marking International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March by bringing together members of the business, legal and academic communities to discuss gender equality during an event hosted in Edinburgh.

A panel made up of lawyers, academics, journalists and banking professionals will discuss this year’s theme, #PressforProgress, at an event co-hosted with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Panellists include Kate Hodgkiss, head of DLA Piper’s employment practice in Scotland, Dr Rosalind Cavaghan of Glasgow Caledonian University, and Marjorie Strachan and Fiona Morris of RBS.

Chaired by journalist Lynsey Bews, the panellists will discuss the current state of gender parity, and the steps still required to achieve equality. Guests will be invited to consider how businesses and individuals can think, act and be more inclusive.

Ms Hodgkiss said: “International Women’s Day is a celebration of how far we have come for gender parity but also highlights the work that is still left to do. Gender inequality is not only a pressing moral and social issue, but also a critical economic challenge.

“Even after decades of effort towards achieving equality, notable gaps remain and the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report predicts that gender parity is over 200 years away. This is clearly far too long to wait, and we must act now. With this in mind, we’d like to encourage men and women to come along to our panel event to discuss how we reach parity, and inspire more women in business to be bold, confident and successful.”

This free event will be hosted at DLA Piper’s Rutland Square office on Thursday 8th March, and the firm welcomes all genders to attend. Registration begins from 5.30pm, with the discussion running from 6pm to 7.30pm. Drinks and canapés will follow until 9pm.
