Gurmit Singh Randhawa, 65, was struck off by the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal in 1997 after he was convicted of three counts of conspiracy to defraud and one count of theft at Cardiff Crown Court.

However, he has since become chairman of a registered charity and was awarded the MBE for his charity fundraising.

Plus, Mr Randhawa told WalesOnline, “I never in my mind was guilty.”

Cardiff Crown Court found that Mr Randhawa acted as the solicitor in fraudulent mortgage applications, had deliberately broken the law to retain clients, and had also stolen money from a client’s account.
