A Senior Solicitor is required to work in the Litigation team within the Council’s in-house legal team, part of its Legal and Risk Division. The Council’s legal team are committed to the principles of modern local government, and have a key role in the delivery of new and innovative Council policies and initiatives, as well as ensuring the Council’s compliance with its various legal obligations.
The workload will be varied and challenging, but with the focus clearly on litigation work, including a wide variety of commercial actions, community protection orders and contentious licensing work. The successful candidate will be expected to draw upon professional and strategic acumen to ensure that all legal advice is appropriately provided and to advise and assist on all aspects of contentious legal work. The successful candidate will require to build strong relationships with client teams and to provide a high standard of client care, while managing their own workload.
The nature of the work can be complex, sensitive and high-profile and applicants will be expected to have relevant experience, including experience in a variety of court or tribunal forums. Experience of public law is desirable but not essential.
Applicants will require a full Practising Certificate in Scotland.
