SLCC staff raise vital funds for the Beatson Cancer charity

Scottish Legal Complaints Commission staff have raised £3,728 for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The Beatson Cancer Charity supports the treatment, care and wellbeing cancer patients and their families. As well as providing funding towards enhanced medical equipment, specialist staff and research, the charity provides complementary therapies for patients and their families.

The Charity’s award-winning Wellbeing Centre provides a unique space where patients and family members can receive a range of complementary therapies to help them relax and find relief from pain, insomnia, nausea, phobia and anxiety while they are undergoing treatment.

Patsy McKechnie, administrative support officer at the SLCC, said: “Having had personal experience of the support that the Beatson Cancer Charity provides, I know how important its services are for patients and their families. I suggested that we choose Beatson as our staff charity for the year and was pleased that my friends and colleagues at the SLCC were very supportive of the idea.”

Dawn Ferguson, charity partnerships manager at Beatson, said: “The support that we receive from organisations like the SLCC makes a real difference in what we are able to do to support cancer patients and their families in Scotland.

“We are very grateful to the staff at the SLCC for their commitment to raising money for Beatson Cancer Charity and their determination to beat cancer. Their generosity will have a direct impact on thousands of patients and their families.”

The money was raised through staff cake sales, raffles, an ‘office fayre’ and the annual SLCC ‘Strictly Charity Auction’.

“It was great to see the SLCC approach fundraising with so much enthusiasm. We have even suggested some of theirvery imaginative fundraising ideas to other groups we work with!”
